July 18 Program: A Good Neighbor - Why We Should Communicate About Corporate Social Responsibility |
Conducting
business has become more than just offering a great product and
providing exceptional customer service. Today's companies and
organizations must look further and consider the
social, community and environmental impacts they have every day. And
even more so, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part
of the financial bottom line - just ask companies like Old Navy,
Walmart, and others. According to
PR Week, "Positive CSR information has led 72% of the respondents to
purchase a company's product or services and 61% to recommend the
company to others. Conversely, negative CSR news has led 60% to a
boycott a company's products and
services." At the same time, CSR also creates brand loyalty among key
stakeholders and helps retain high-quality employees.
Join our panel of experts who represent agency and corporate
communications teams as they discuss the importance of communicating
about corporate social responsibility and share best practices.

APR Update |
Congratulations
to Eden Hopkins, public relations and promotions manager at the Museum
of Flight, for earning her APR. The APR is the only national public
relations accreditation
available to PR practitioners. The APR accreditation process includes a
written questionnaire, a panel interview and a comprehensive
computer-based exam. Attaining the APR is a true mark of distinction.
Accreditation Classes Planned for Fall
To assist candidates in preparing for the APR, the PRSA Puget Sound
Chapter is organizing a series of preparation classes to provide a
focused learning and study opportunity for topics covered on the APR
exam. You'll also receive
practical tips on the readiness review and portfolio preparation from
chapter members who have successfully completed the process.
The series of seven classes starts Saturday morning, September 15, with
the remaining classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through October
4. All sessions will be held at the JayRay office, 535 E. Dock Street,
in downtown Tacoma. The
$75 fee covers breakfast at the first session, the course textbook
(Effective Public Relations by Cutlip, Center & Broom) and other
class materials.
Register by Friday, August 24 by calling 206-623-8632.
Thanks to APR Readiness Review Panelists
Many thanks to Gary Sabol, APR, Davina Gruenstein, APR, and Pete DeLaunay,
