The Public Relations Society of America is the major force in the professional development of today's public relations practitioners. As never before, institutions are striving to understand the forces of change, to accommodate their activities to new pressures and expectations, and to listen and communicate more effectively. Because public understanding and consent are critical to realizing their objectives, institutions must establish sound relationships with their various publics.
This task requires the guidance of public relations professionals qualified to meet new challenges, monitor public opinion, and play a vigorous leadership role in counseling institutions on how to respond to change.
The Public Relations Society of America helps prepare its members to meet those challenges. It offers unequaled opportunities for improvement of skills and advancement of knowledge, as well as for exchange of information and experiences with other public relations professionals.
Organized in 1947 and chartered in 1948, PRSA is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. Its more than 19,000 members represent business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and not-for-profit organizations.
