Professional & Volunteer Awards
To recognize and celebrate the professional and volunteer accomplishments of individual PR professionals in the Puget Sound area, the chapter honors outstanding practitioners with the following awards each year:
- Jay Rockey Lifetime Achievement Award
- PR Professional of the Year
- President's Award for Volunteerism
- Outstanding New Member of the Year
- Hugh Smith Community Service Award
A description of each award and nomination forms are provided below. Award recipients are honored each year at the chapter's annual Holiday Gala, which will be held on December 2, 2008.

PR Professional of the Year
Established in memory of former chapter member Sally Heet, this award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the public relations profession and the community, acted as mentor to other professionals and displays the highest degree of professional integrity. Hugh Smith Community Service Award
This award was established in 1997 to recognize a Puget Sound area public relations professional who has demonstrated outstanding citizenship by contributing his/her public relations expertise to an important community issue and/or nonprofit organization(s). Winners are not required to be PRSA members. The award was presented posthumously to Hugh Smith, APR, Fellow, at the 1997 Holiday Gala. Past award winners include:

Pat Fearey Receives 2007 Jay Rockey Lifetime Achievement Award
Well-known local public relations leader Pat Fearey led the list of honorees announced November 29, 2007 at the annual Holiday Gala of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Fearey was the 2007 recipient of the chapter's prestigious Jay Rockey Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her career achievements and outstanding professional ability and conduct.
Fearey, chair and chief executive officer of the Fearey Group, is widely recognized as one of the top public relations professionals in the Puget Sound region. During a career spanning more than 35 years, Fearey has counseled clients on a range of highly visible and important real estate and development issues to Seattle and the region, including the redevelopment of the South Lake Union area. As the leader of a prominent public relations and public affairs firm, her list of clients has included the Boeing Realty Corporation, Port of Seattle, Vulcan and Quadrant Corporation. Fearey is also an active leader in the community, having served as President of PONCHO (Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations), chair of the Community Development Roundtable, and co-chair of the Regional Leadership Conference. She currently serves on the executive committee of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to leading the Fearey Group, which she founded in 1981, Pat Fearey's professional experience includes marketing and public relations work at organizations such as IBM, Southland Corporation and Seattle Center. She is a founding member of the Public Relations Global Network (PRGN), an international organization of leading independent owner-operated public relations agencies. In recent years, Fearey was named by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of the region's 20 most influential women.
The Puget Sound chapter recognized six additional award recipients at its 50th anniversary holiday gala, including, Suzanne Hartman, APR, ABC, who was honored as the Public Relations Professional of the Year; Catherine Hinrichsen, APR, who received the Hugh Smith Community Service Award; Jeremy Glines, named New Member of the Year; and Erle Hannum (presented posthumously), Richelle Nielsen and Jenn Farrell were selected to receive the President's Award for Volunteerism.
