The Totem Award is a symbol of creativity and accomplishment for the PR industry in the Puget Sound area. The program is designed to recognize projects and programs that demonstrate excellence in PR and rise above the competition. PRSA Puget Sound honors the best public relations programs, tactics and practitioners in the region at its annual Totem Awards Banquet. The Totem Award competition is open to all public relations and marketing professionals in the region, PRSA members and nonmembers alike.
Each entry is judged on its own merits, with Totem Awards and Certificates of Excellence being awarded in 24 categories and multiple sub-categories. Additionally, there’s the Best of Show, President's Choice and Young Professional Awards announced at the banquet.
NEXT TOTEMS DEADLINE
The next deadline for the Totem awards is Friday, October 11, 2013.
WHAT'S NEW?
We like to keep things fresh and fun! Here are a few changes to the Totems that you should be aware of.
President’s Award: The President’s Choice Award will be selected from a field of Totem Award winning finalists by a panel of the current and/or past presidents of the PRSA Puget Sound Chapter. It will honor the public relations campaign that excels in creativity despite having limited resources (such as time, budget or staff).
- Early Bird Deadline: There are two deadlines with varying rates being offered this year. The Early Bird Deadline is Friday, September 28 and the final deadline is Monday, October 8. Entries must be dropped off at one of the designated locations or postmarked by 5 p.m. on these dates, no exceptions.
- Social Media/Mobile Tech: To reflect the explosion of social media and mobile technology use in creative strategies, the Technology category has been updated. Entrants can submit mobile apps, texting campaigns and more in this new category.
Volunteers needed to judge reciprocal chapter awards each spring
Part of the Totem Awards process is the reciprocal judging of other chapter’s award submittals. Would you like to help judge? Stay tuned for information about dates, times and judging requirements or contact Karla Slate, APR, at kslate@covingtonwa.gov.
